The Mediterranean Diet is famous for its Health Benefits
Central to the Mediterranean Diet is olive oil, the preeminent source of monounsaturated fats. Many physicians and health experts, including those at the Mayo Clinic, recommend a diet based on monunsaturated fats rather than saturated fats (present in many processed foods).
For example, the journal Fitness and Health states that:
"...monounsaturated fatty acids have one double carbon bond and are especially good for cholesterol levels. They lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol & increase HDL ("good") cholesterol..."
The journal Current Medicinal Chemistry states that:
"...Diets [of] olive oil and relatively rich in vegetables, have been associated with a low incidence of cardiovascular disease.”
Kastania Olive Oil is brimming with the natural antioxidants called biophenols, according to a new laboratory analysis. In particular, lab tests show that our biophenol count is 303 mg/kg, which is substantially higher than average. One of these biophenols, called oleocanthals, has been linked to reductions in cancer cells, preventing Alzheimer’s disease and symptoms of arthritis.
Our laboratory tests were performed close to a year after our oil was produced, not right after milling, when biophenol content is expected to be at its highest. Still, our oil was shown to have remarkably high levels of oleocanthals, tyrosols and other biophenols.
